Review | Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette

24 Oct

Hello, all! I have determined that I have a certifiable addiction to Urban Decay eyeshadows. Every time I see a new palette from them, I hem and haw over getting it…and somehow it ends up in my desk. The only ones I’ve been able to resist fairly easily have been the Naked Basics 1 & 2, because they look. so. boring. Yeah, I’m a sucker for interesting colors and pretty packaging.

Weirdly enough, this is the first Vice palette I’ve ever owned. I’m glad I held out this long, because the organization of the colors in the palette is ON POINT, and it has a bunch of matte transitional shades so I don’t have to dig for a neutral palette to pair with allllll the bright colors.

See what I mean? Look at all those beautiful neutrals. But obviously that wasn’t the reason I bought this palette…*cough Dragon cough Bondage cough inappropriate eyeshadow names cough*vice 3 collageTry as I might, I wasn’t able to get decent pictures that really showcased the dimension of these shadows. Trust me, they’re DIMENSIONAL.Ā DSC05502

Truth is a matte pink-toned white, perfect for a browbone highlight. It’s really pigmented; all the mattes in this palette are. Can I get a hallelujah? No? Ok šŸ˜¦ Undone is a matte mauve. I’ve used this in every Vice 3 look I’ve done so far as a transitional crease shade. Downfall is a matte medium brown. Be careful with this guy, because it is PIGMENTED as all hell. I was a bit sloppy this morning and had to blend it out with a ton of Truth. Oops.

DTF (really. REALLY. Wonder what that stands for, Urban Decay.) is a cool-toned matte grey-brown. Now, on to the fun shades! Dragon is a metallic bright green. While this shade requires a bit of layering, the result is well worth it. Freeze is a metallic ice blue with the same general formula as Dragon. Heroine is a matte navy blue with A+ pigmentation and texture. Brokedown is a metallic green-toned bronze. Vanity has crappy pigmentation, but it’s a shimmery greyish purple. Grr. It can be built up, but for what I paid for this, I shouldn’t have to! Lucky is a beautiful metallic gold. Reign is a shimmery warm-toned brown. Bobby Dazzle is a startlingly bright shimmery white. Alien is a shimmery pink duochrome with a yellow shift. Sounds weird but it’s actually one of my favorite colors in the palette. Alchemy is a cool metallic berry pink. Bondage is a semi-matte blackened deep reddish purple. The pigmentation on this guy is INSANE. Sonic is a metallic orange-red very similar to Sugarpill’s Asylum pigment. For the last row, Last Sin is a glittery champagne. It has a similar texture to Sidecar from the original Naked palette. Angel is a glittery cool taupe. Defy is a cool-toned grey. And lastly, Revolver is a shimmery black with silver sparkle.

The only gripes I have with this palette is the lack of non-glittery highlight colors and the few shadows with unfortunate pigmentation (Vanity is the main offender here). I would’ve liked a subtly shimmery off-white highlight. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR??? Besides those wee concerns, this palette is amazing. Honestly. It comes with a double-sided brush and a matching makeup bag, so I do feel like I’m getting my money’s worth with this. Plus, the packaging is beautiful, the mirror inside is huge, and it stands up by itself! Yes, this is an important addition šŸ™‚

Hello! Have you tried out the Pulp Fiction palette yet? I was considering buying it, but I just really need to know if it’s worth it! Thanks! šŸ™‚

I’ve only swatched it so far, but the pigmentation is stunning and the shadows are really creamy. I think for the price especially it’s a great investment šŸ˜€

I love your reviews, for sheer entertainment value šŸ˜€

When I saw your pics, the first colour that caught my eye turned out to be Dragon šŸ˜€ then Alchemy and Revolver – not that I’d ever be cool enough to wear them, I can still admire them, though. I just love the depth in Alchemy.

Looking forward to your looks with these and lots of pretty photos!

Think inside the box!
