Today’s Random Act of Kindness: FAILED

18 Jul

Today Juju and I took a trip to our local Walmart. As we were driving in, we noticed a homeless woman sitting on the corner under a tree. At first we thought nothing of it and continued our foray into the frightening, redneck-abundant parking lot.

Halfway through our halfhearted browsing of Walmart’s wares, Juju had the brilliant idea of giving the woman a bag of food. I’m generally against giving money as you can’t control what they spend it on once it leaves your hands, but food can always been used. So we ran around like madwomen trying to find the cheapest way to give the most food. We found a loaf of bread for less than a dollar, a half-dozen donuts, a can of chicken noodle soup, 2 packs of Ramen noodles, and a few bananas.

Laden with 2 bags of food and unashamedly proud expressions, we drove toward the corner and stopped in disbelief. She was gone.

Dejected, we wandered home and deposited our would-be kindness on Juju’s countertop. On the up side, we did manage to provide Juju’s cat with a meal of tuna and chicken, which was greatly appreciated.

Moral of the day: the road to hell is paved with good intentions…but those donuts were delicious.
